What’s New or Changing

  • 2022 Health Plan and Pharmacy Changes
    • Premium increases: There will be slight premium increases across all USG healthcare plans. The change will be between $1 and $21 per month depending on the plan and coverage tier in which you are enrolled. Review the 2022 USG Healthcare Rates for specific rate information.
    • Out-of-pocket maximums increase for the Consumer Choice HSA plan: The in-network employee-only coverage tier out-of-pocket (OOP) maximum will increase from $3,700 to $4,000, and the family tier OOP maximum is increasing from $7,400 to $8,000. The out-of-network employee-only coverage tier will increase from $7,400 to $8,000, and the family tier will increase from $14,800 to $16,000.

    2022 Pharmacy Changes

    • New specialty tier: USG is introducing a new tier for specialty medications if you’re enrolled in the Comprehensive Care and BlueChoice HMO plan.
    • 30-day supply limit for specialty tier: A 30-day supply limit for all new specialty medications will apply.
      • If you are a current member of the Comprehensive Care or BlueChoice HMO plan currently receiving more than a 30-day supply, you can continue to do so by paying 2x or 3x the 30-day supply cost.

    This example assumes a 30-day supply of specialty medication.

  • FSAs and HSAs Move from Optum to HSA Bank

    Effective January 1, 2022, HSA Bank will be our new spending account vendor. 

    • If you have an FSA, you must re-enroll each Open Enrollment.
      • Beginning January 1, 2022, all new 2022 contributions will be sent to HSA Bank and you will receive a new HSA Bank Spending Account card no later than January 1, 2022.
      • If you have a balance in 2021, you can continue to incur eligible expenses through March 15, 2022, and file your claims with Optum through March 31, 2022. Any money remaining in your account after March 31, 2022, will be forfeited.
    • If you have an HSA with Optum in 2021, during Open Enrollment, you will be asked to approve the transfer of your account funds from Optum to HSA Bank. Approving the transfer means you’ll access all of your Health Savings Account funds through HSA Bank, and you will earn $50 after the transfer is complete. As a current Optum Bank HSA holder, you may approve to transfer your balance to HSA Bank or keep your account with Optum. However, it is important to note that if you choose to keep your HSA with Optum Bank, you will be responsible for all associated fees ($3.25/per month).
      • To approve the transfer of your current HSA with Optum to HSA Bank, complete your approval here. Access Code: K22UH6

  • Changes to Pet Insurance
    • Beginning October 1, 2021, there are important changes to the My Pet Protection® pet insurance plan offered through Nationwide for new policyholders. Nationwide will no longer be offering the wellness benefit with their plans.
    • Employees who enroll after October 1 will be eligible to choose between the 50% and 70% reimbursement options for vet bills.

    With the My Pet Protection plan, you can continue to see any vet, anywhere without the hassle of networks or pre-approvals.

  • Reduction in Retirement Plan Administration Fees

    Great news for 2022! USG administrative fees will be waived in the ORP, 403(b), and 457(b) plans. Vendor fees will still apply. Remember, you can enroll in a 403(b) or 457(b) anytime. Enroll today! Go to and select OneUSGConnect to log in. Once logged in, select Benefits from the drop-down and choose Retirement @ Work.

  • Tobacco and Working Spouse Surcharges

    Employees enrolled in a USG Healthcare plan must complete the Tobacco User and Working Spouse surcharge certification annually, during Open Enrollment. You will pay a surcharge if the below applies or if you do not complete the certification(s):

    • Tobacco surcharge: $100/month per covered family member (age 18+) who uses tobacco products
    • Working spouse surcharge: $100/month if you’re an active employee who covers a spouse who has an offer of medical coverage through an employer

  • Remember to Confirm Your Beneficiaries

    Take a moment during USG Open Enrollment to make sure you have the correct beneficiaries on file for USG life insurance. It’s a quick yet important step, and it will ensure that the right person or people receive your benefits in case something happens to you. 

    Designating your beneficiary is quick and easy! 

    Log into your OneUSG Connect - Benefits account at

    Then, follow these steps.

    • Under Your Action Needed select the Add Your Beneficiary Now link.
    • Select the Choose Beneficiaries link. From here, you can enter names and benefit percentages.
    • Click on the Submit button after you enter your information.
