Current USG retirees who retired prior to January 1, 2023, are not subject to the USG Years of Service policy. The USG healthcare contribution is determined annually and approved by the board. USG will share a percentage of employee and employer costs.

USG Retirees 65 and older
Your USG retiree healthcare benefit is an annual contribution to your Health Reimbursement Account (HRA). This HRA account is employer-funded by USG and can be used to reimburse yourself for eligible expenses you have paid out of pocket, such as Medicare Part B costs, as well as premiums for healthcare, prescription drug, vision, and dental coverage purchased through Alight Retiree Health Solutions
2024 Annual Contribution
For USG current USG retirees, the University System of Georgia will contribute up to $2,640 annually to your HRA for both you and your Medicare-enrolled spouse. USG will determine and communicate the annual contribution each fall.
Note: In order to remain eligible for this contribution, you must remain continuously enrolled in a Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage, or Medicare Prescription Drug Plan through ARHS. If you retire mid-year, your first HRA contribution will be prorated based on the date you enroll in an eligible Supplemental health plan with ARHS.

USG Retiree Healthcare
- Pre-65 Healthcare: you must enroll in direct debit to ensure payments are paid in full and made on time, so coverage is not interrupted. Per USG policy, you must pay premiums by automatic direct debit from a checking or savings account.
- 65 and older Healthcare: You will pay your monthly healthcare premium directly to the carrier selected through ARHS and you will use your Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) to help cover expenses related to being enrolled in Medicare and/or a supplemental plan.
USG Retiree Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance
You must enroll in direct debit to ensure payments are paid in full and made on time, so coverage is not interrupted. Per USG policy, you must pay premiums by automatic direct debit from a checking or savings account.
- To set up an automatic direct debit, call 844-587-4236 or online at OneUSG Connect - Benefits. Under the Retiree section, select Manage My Benefits.
- Your payment will be due on the first of each month for the current month of coverage.
- When you initially retire, your next bill will show as past due. The bill will outline when your payment must be received to avoid the cancellation of your coverage. It is important to pay in full so your coverage is not canceled.
- If your coverage is canceled due to non-payment, your coverage will be canceled back to the last day of the month in which premiums were paid in full. If your retiree benefits are canceled for nonpayment, you will not be allowed to enroll in USG healthcare insurance at a later date.
Please remember, if you are a pre-65 retiree and your spouse is age 65 or older, premium payments for any healthcare plans purchased through Alight Retiree Health Solutions will be made directly to the carrier(s) that you enrolled in. You can then be reimbursed for those payments through the USG HRA either through premium auto-reimbursement or by submitting a claim. When you fill out your enrollment application, your Benefits Advisor will discuss which carriers participate in auto-reimbursement.
